"Nixon sues Leawood developer"

"A Leawood developer faces 14 felony counts in Missouri for allegedly failing to deduct, report and pay state employment taxes on undocumented workers at the Lake of the Ozarks, Attorney General Jay Nixon said Tuesday.

Nixon charged Michael Schlup, whose businesses include Schlup Investments Inc. and Plaza Gardens on the Lake Inc., in Camden County, where he is the developer of a luxury condominium complex, Nixon said in a written release.

'...Those who evade tax responsibilities by not deducting or paying taxes and by paying workers under the table have an unfair and illegal advantage over those businesses that work hard and play by the rules,' Nixon's statement said..."
