Spacecon Specialty Contractors
Spacecon was busted by
ICE for illegal immigrants
working on a Top Secret Government Base dealing with
weapons of
mass destruction!
The project was Dugway Proving Ground in Utah DON’T FALL VICTIM TO SUCH RECKLESS ABUSE!! It should be no surprise after what happened with Spacecon at Dugway to find out that they also fail to meet area labor standards, including providing or paying for health care and pension to all of its employees on all projects. Swinerton Builders, who was also involved in the Dugway project, is planning on using Spacecon drywall to perform work on the Four Seasons Hotel project located in Denver. The project is being developed by Teatro Tower LLC. The Carpenters Union has a labor dispute with Spacecon drywall. In our opinion, communities suffer when contractors fail to pay area standard wages and benefits. We believe that the Four Seasons Hotel has a moral obligation to allow only contractors who pay area standards the privilege to build a Four Seasons Hotel. | Spacecon has worked and continues to work on projects in Colorado, Oregon and Utah. Workers working on Spacecon projects have told organizers for the Carpenters' District Council of Kansas City & Vicinity of the exploitation they face on the job. Like other contractors who practice misclassification schemes, Spacecon has hired workers through a system of "labor brokers". These "labor brokers" have misclassified workers as independent contractors to avoid the costs associated with having employees (e.g. not paying employment taxes such as Social Security or Unemployment Insurance, and in some cases not providing Workers' Compensation Insurance). These workers have indicated that they receive cash payments with no deductions. For many of the workers, they explained to organizers, their status in this country keeps them from complaining to the governmental agencies responsible for enforcing employment standards such as FLSA (Fair Labor Standards Act). According to the workers, most of them are being paid well below area standards. |
