What’s going on at
Kirkwood Commons?
Kirkwood
Commons, LLC has hired Metro Engineering as general contractor for
the conversion of the Kirkwood Hotel into residential living and
office area space. Metro Engineering has in turn hired T & S
Drywall as a subcontractor. T & S Drywall has misclassified workers
as independent subcontractors to avoid paying social security taxes,
unemployment insurance, and workers’ compensation insurance.
Why would
Metro Engineering use such a subcontractor? You would think that
that Kirkwood Commons, LLC, who has spent around 13 million dollars
on this building, could do better than that!
Why does
Kirkwood Commons associate itself with such cut-rate, substandard
operations as T & S Drywall? We don’t know. What we do know is
that the earning power of working people in our community is the
foundation upon which our economy is based. When that standard is
undermined through the selection of UNFAIR, SUBSTANDARD CONTRACTORS,
the project owner exists as a PARASITE and not a contributor to our
community.
That’s
what’s going on at Kirkwood Commons.
